Abstract
The metabolic syndrome includes insulin resistance, hypertension and obesity. It is well known as risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Urologic diseases are also linked to metabolic syndrome. Recent researches note that the metabolic syndrome associated with prostate tumors, hypogonadism, nephrolithiasis, overactive bladder, and erectile dysfunction. Urologists need to be aware of the relationships between metabolic syndrome and urologic diseases. But evidence based data are not enough to understand its associations. The relationships between metabolic syndrome and urologic diseases are very extensive issues. So, in this article we will focus principally on the influence of established aspects of the metabolic syndrome and benign prostate hyperplasia/lower urinary tract symptoms.
